Happy,
healthy and successful “self made” people
often advise all of us in the struggling masses that “you have to make
your own
luck” and “when life deals you lemons, make lemonade”. It is certainly
true
that people have a great propensity to squander good fortune instead of
taking
advantage of it when it crosses their path. The Las Vegas
hotel-casino-entertainment industry relies on this
predictable behavior. When opportunity knocks, it is incumbent upon us
to take
full advantage of it, but no one can make their own luck. The very
definition
of luck precludes any control over it. There are some things we can do
to help
maintain our health, but 99% of it is out of our control. If we are
lucky
enough to be able to exercise or eat a healthy diet, we should take
advantage
of those kinds of things. Unfortunately, one tiny blood clot or one
infinitely
smaller genetic mutation can radically change anyone’s health and life
regardless of one’s intelligence, strength, power or wealth. If you
believe
that there is someone in a position to influence these seemingly random
but
profoundly consequential quantum events, then that is who you should be
talking
to about your health.
