Sleep is the
only medical mystery that has been
explored by philosophers and theologians. Why must we spend a forth of
our
lives in a semi-conscience state where the muscles rest but the brain
does not?
We know that for our health we must sleep long enough for our minds to
do
something; something that apparently must be very important. Some
propose that
we are collating information and storing data, or analyzing experiences
and
determining likely conclusions and best responses. Others suggest that
our
dream state is our link to a universal life force, or a medium to
potentially communicate
with an extracorporeal or spiritual existence. Whatever. In any event,
to sleep
well it helps to avoid useless anxiety; not an easy charge. We worry
about
things that we cannot affect because we foolishly think that we can,
and we
worry about things that we can affect because we insecurely think we
need to
affect them more. You are probably not that important. Just go to
sleep.
